RTP: what it means, and what it does not

RTP comes up constantly and is misread just as often, so here is the plain version.

What it is. Return to player is the proportion of all money staked on a game that is returned as winnings, measured across an enormous number of spins. A 96 percent RTP means that over millions of spins the game pays back about 96 percent of everything staked.

What it is not. It is not a prediction about your session. It is not a budget guide. It does not mean ₱1,000 becomes ₱960. Over a few hundred spins, actual results scatter widely around that figure, which is the whole reason people play.

Volatility matters as much. Two games with identical RTP can feel completely different: one pays small and often, the other almost never and then significantly.

A game is never due. Each spin is independent. A game that has not paid out is exactly as likely to pay on the next spin as it was on the first.

Higher RTP is better, all else equal. It is just not a plan, and any system built on it is built on nothing.
